Nowadays, most of the Internet communications are done on large, private and commercial networks. It’s no scoop that they sell our informations to publicists or sometimes to governments (cf. the Snowden file). This situation is problematic on several aspects: private life, censorship, surveillance, etc.

We are organised around an association trying to improve our way of communicating. Our project, Libervia, allows to exchange like the other social networks with your contacts, but without any advertisement, in respect of your privacy and exclusively through free software.

Libervia is a multipurpose tool featuring messaging, blogging, files and pictures sharing, real-time chat. But it’s above all an ethical project driven by a social contract, which thinks about human being before the technology.

The project’s stage is already well advanced, we are missing yet some months of development to offer an end-user version, installable and usable by everybody.

Libervia is organised around 3 axes:

  1. Software: a web site which allows to communicate like the social networks that you already know… but it’s a free software, it works as a decentralised network and uses a standard protocol. These principles, which are essential to us, are detailed on our page. Last but not least, we propose some features to improve the protection of your data, for example with the “OTR” encryption mechanism.
  2. Ethics: a social contract has been written, this is a declaration of our moral engagement toward the users and persons supporting us. We have decided to organise ourselves as a non profit and self-managed association. We try to protect the project against any “drift” – also from ourselves.
  3. Thoughts: we state that technology is not neutral, and that the way a tool is made will influence its usage. We take the time to think about each feature that we add, its impact, and more generally about the roles of the new media.

The campaign, if it succeeds, will allow us to develop a desktop and Android interface (the same interface that will adapt itself to the screen). We have defined 3 steps: a prototype for the desktop interface, a usable desktop interface, adapt this interface to smartphones.

Salut à Toi

Hi to you!

We are a non-profit association founded in 2014 to manage the development of the “Salut à Toi” project (from which “Libervia” is a part), and to have a reflection on modern communication tools like Internet or the “social networks”.

We develop exclusively free (as in freedom) software, and we put ethics in our top priorities, that can be seen with the “social contract” that we have written.

Beside our work on the project, we are also travelers and we have met many kind of people, and actively participated to hospitality exchange networks like BeWelcome or been to alternative places. We specially love real (physical) meetings and chats, and in addition to organised events were we often go, we like a lot informal encounters.

We have been working on this project for several years, because we strongly think that we are doing something significant and with a potential, and we hope than we’ll find a way to support our life with it while following our ethical commitments and our conscience.
