Madagascar 2015 : Renovation of our Fanovozantsoa center

Why support this project?

In light of the cyclones which hit Madagascar in 2004, lasting more than 18 days, the homeless children in the region are now more than ever in need of our assistance. Indeed, more than 237 people were killed during the storms, and many children lost their families, their homes, and their sense of security. Furthermore, our housing center in the area, Fanovozantsoa, was largely degraded by the heavy rains.

Today, we are hoping to raise money for the purpose of renovating our housing center, which is currently home to 21 children from ages 2 to 17. This project will be carried out in three stages:

  1. Repairing the facilities (painting the interior and exterior; other general repairs; purchasing mattresses) – 1,000 €
  2. Repaving the basketball courts and recreational area – 1,000 €
  3. Financing entertainment and vacations – 1,000 €

** Those who donate are eligible to receive a tax refund of 65-75% of the donated funds.

Le contexte

Madagascar: a beautiful and diverse country; one of the largest islands of the African continent; a sanctuary for some of the most unique wildlife that this world has to offer; where the people boast a heritage of African, Indian, and Asian roots…

It’s a place that is home to both rich and poor, fortunate and less fortunate. The vibrant streets display various faces, various destinies — and, among them, those of the millions of children who are unwashed, uneducated, and without a place to call home.

This the raison d’être of our center in Mahajunga, a city of approximately 200,000 inhabitants. In this center, we are attempting to create the conditions necessary to give life to the dreams of these children who have been so long forgotten.

Because, like all children, they dream of tomorrow, of being loved, and, many, of attending school.

But our efforts and those of the children are not enough. With our bank account almost empty, we’ve been stretching our budget for over two years. Our only recourse is to call more people into action, and to make new friends, align ourselves with new organizations, and find new donors in order to further expand our association.

We must expand so as to better defend and support our cause, so simple yet so important: to allow these children to reconstruct their lives, to survive more easily and make decisions for themselves, and to no longer sleep on the streets, amidst violence and danger. It is for this reason that we are launching this campaign.

Who are we?

Prométhée Humanitaire is a non-profit organization composed of volunteers all over the world who have decided that there is something they can do to help the homeless children of the world. The headquarters is based in Paris, France. Our volunteers come together twice during the year to assist in organizing and executing two sales: one for Christmas and one for Mother’s Day. Proceeds from these sales go directly to local organizations in Senegal, Madagascar, Haiti, and Vietnam, which are responsible for overseeing the housing centers in those areas.

Every child cared for by Prométhée is guaranteed, in addition to meals and housing, a realizable plan for their future. This includes access to educational and cultural activities, which are meant to strengthen their capacity to achieve whatever social or professional goals they choose to pursue.

L’impact sur la communauté

In providing your support, you will be helping us to repair and further develop our housing center, as well as improve the health and security of the homeless children of Madagascar.

Why homeless children? Because it is these children who are most in danger and most in need of our immediate attention.

Our mission is to raise awareness of the situation of street children, victims of hunger, sickness, violence, and often prostitution.

We feel strongly that every child has the right to good health, education, security, and social and psychological wellbeing.

Prométhée Humanitaire is committed to gaining recognition of these rights. We call upon local organizations which are fighting to improve the legal, economic, and social capacities of children living on the streets.

Similarly, we are asking individual donors like you for help in raising awareness and funds, which would greatly enhance the lives of these children and, thus, the development of their communities.

Thank you for your support!!!
